Staff Accountant (Full Time)

Padgett Business Services is a franchise tax, payroll, accounting, and financial reporting firm that has served the Quad Cities area for over 25 years. We specialize in helping small businesses make more money while reducing their tax liabilities. We are looking for a motivated, hardworking, and dedicated Staff Accountant to help us manage our workflow to achieve and sustain our significant growth from the last few years.
JOB SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant will perform a wide variety of duties with the primary focus being the preparation of business financial statements.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Entry – Accurately and efficiently enter accounting, payroll, and tax data into the various software we and our clients use. Reconcile information entered to supporting documents to ensure accuracy of work. Setup new employees in payroll system as provided by clients. Facilitate process improvements on overall data entry process.

Perform bank account and other account reconciliations to validate the reported numbers.

Prepare Monthly Sales Tax Returns.

Manage and process payroll, including monitoring payroll tax filings and payments to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable requirements.

Assist with preparation of Annual Worker’s Compensation True-Up Reports.

Prepare Individual tax returns as needed.

Review and advise client regarding effects of business activities on taxes, and on strategies for minimizing tax liability.

Ensure client complies with all taxing authority requirements and represent client before taxing authorities as needed.

Data Assembly/Delivery – Assemble monthly accounting financial statements and tax returns for delivery to client. At times, deliver completed accounting, payroll, and tax information to clients.

Scan necessary documents as needed and maintain standards throughout office for achieving paperless goals.

Ad hoc requests – respond to and complete other ad hoc projects as they arise.

Computer proficient – working knowledge of PC based applications like Excel, Word, and Outlook along with Accounting Products like QuickBooks (Desktop and Online), ADP, TaxDome, and the Creative Solutions Suite (Accounting CS, Practice CS, Fixed Assets CS, etc.)

Internet proficient – ability to use the Internet to obtain answers to questions about certain transactions

Well organized with good time management and follow-through skills

Quick learner/thinker – ability to grasp new concepts quickly and learn on the fly

A sound understanding of Accounting, Payroll, and Income / Payroll Tax Filing Requirements

Ability to work additional hours as workload demands
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
-
Minimum Experience: 2-4 Years
-
Must have thorough understanding of Accounting and Payroll principles and have experience with how debits & credits work, the difference between assets, liabilities, revenue, and expenses, forms 941/940, W-2’s, 1099’s, etc. and sales tax returns.

An understanding of QuickBooks, TaxDome, and other Accounting Software is a plus.
